What Is BMI and How Is It Calculated?
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a widely used health screening tool that estimates whether a person's weight is healthy relative to their height. The formula is: BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². In imperial units: BMI = (weight in pounds × 703) ÷ height in inches².
While our body mass index calculator gives you an instant BMI score, it also tells you your BMI category: underweight (below 18.5), normal weight (18.5–24.9), overweight (25–29.9), or obese (30+). Note that BMI doesn't account for muscle mass — a bodybuilder may have a high BMI while being extremely healthy.
